Elements of a Cloth Diaper

Our Cloth Diaper consists of

  • A colorful outer cover which is generally made up of polyester material
  • A soft inner suede cloth to prevent leakage
  • A stuffing pocket, which is attached in order to place an absorbent/soaker insert
  • An absorbent insert which are usually made up of microfiber, bamboo, bamboo cotton fiber, bamboo charcoal fiber or hemp fiber.

Types of Cloth Diapers

With more and more parents embracing the immense benefits of cloth diapering, one might wonder if there's just one way to go about it. Absolutely not. There's no 'one type fits all'. Let's take a look at the options we have:

Pocket Diaper:

The outer layer is made of 100% waterproof PUL and inner layer is made of suede (stay dry fabric) cloth. It also has a pocket attached to it in which one places the insert. This diaper needs to be washed completely once soaked. One insert lasts 3-4 hours and hence it is a good daytime diapering option.

AIO (All In One) Diaper:

The outer layer is made of waterproof polyester and the inner layer is suede cloth, with an inbuilt 3-layer microfiber sewn in between. It has an attached pocket and comes with double gussets for better comfort and to prevent leakage. It is suitable for heavy wetters during the day and is good for up to 4 hours.

Bamboo AIO (All in One) Diaper:

It is almost the same as AIO except that the microfiber sewn in between is a four-layer bamboo cotton which makes it a 12-layer absorbent. It can last up to 8 hours.

New Born Diaper:

These diapers are generally smaller in size compared to other diaper types, so it’s the perfect fit for newborn babies (weighing 2.5 to 4Kgs). It is usually available in both cover and pocket diaper types.

Cover Diaper:

These diapers do not have a pocket. Instead, the dry-feel layer is attached on to the absorbent. This soaker is placed inside the cover. This is a pad-and-pant system. In this, you can change the absorbent and reuse the outer. One pad lasts for 3-4 hours and this makes it a good day-time diaper. It is more economical than pocket ones.

Types of Inserts

Microfiber

Microfiber is made of synthetic fabrric. It soaks super-fast and lasts for 2-3 hours. It also dries fast and is suitable for use during daytime. Being a stay dry fabric it cannot be in direct contact with the baby’s skin. So Microfibers are mostly used in pocket diapers because the suede cloth material is in between to protect the baby’s skin.

Bamboo

Bamboo is a highly absorbent natural fiber. It absorbs moisture incredibly fast and can hold a lot of it without irritating the skin. Bamboo as a fabric is highly breathable and is heat regulating. It is so soft and silky to touch and can be in direct contact with the baby’s skin. In addition to that, it dries quickly keeping your baby comfortable and cool. This insert/soaker works really well for heavy wetters (above 4 hours) and is suitable for both daytime and night usage.

Hemp

Hemp is a natural fibre which has a very high absorbency and durability. It usually holds 2.5 times more fluid than microfiber. Softness and durability increases exponentially when used for a longer period of time. Thus making it a perfect insert for night time use.
